INTRODUCTION

The unspoiled landscape of Suriname is the main attraction for visitors. Suriname has the highest amount of primeval rainforest in the world, covering over 90% of the country. Suriname should be on your list of places to visit in South America. The cultural and colonial past of the country is also intriguing: the culture is influenced by no fewer than six separate ethnic groups, all of whom coexist in relative peace. However, if you are a UK national and would like to visit Suriname, you will need to obtain a visa. The process is relatively simple and can be completed online. However, there are a few things you should know before applying. First of all, the visa application form must be completed in English. You will also need a passport-sized photograph, as well as a copy of your passport. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date you intend to leave Suriname. DO UK CITIZENS NEED A VISA FOR SURINAME?

Regular British passport holders need a visa to journey to Suriname before they may enter the country. You must apply for a visa in person, whether you are coming for vacation or business, at the Honorary Embassy of Suriname in London.

SURINAME VISA FOR UK NATIONALS

One can file for the following typical visa kinds as a British citizen:

  • Tourist Visa
  • Visa for Business
  • Internship or Volunteer Work Visa
  • Special Visa
  • Transit Visa

Tourist Visa

A single-entry and multiple-entry Surinamese tourist visa are also available. A single entry visa is good for two months, whereas multiple entry visas are good for two months and twelve months. The maximum stay allowed is 90 days.

The following documents are required:

  • An online visa application form has been completed. After you've filled in all of the information, save it and print it and sign it, and make sure it's not more than 10 days old when you send it in.
  • A current 3 cm × 4 cm color picture is affixed to the right top corner of the application form.
  • A passport with at least two blank pages and a minimum validity of six months is required.
  • A duplicate of the airline ticket.
  • A copy of the following destination's itinerary.
  • Documentation demonstrating your intention to leave Suriname within 90 days.

Visa for Business

Multiple entry business visas are available for two months or two years. They permit a maximum of 90 days of stay.

A valid passport-filled application form and pictures are required, just as they are for a tourist visa. The following papers are required as backup:

  • A copy of the Chamber of Commerce's registration.
  • An official letter of invitation from the Suriname-based hosting firm or an official letter from the Suriname-based representative company.
  • A duplicate of your itinerary.

Internship or Volunteer Work Visa

If you're coming to Suriname for an internship or volunteer work, you may apply for an entrance visa that enables you to remain for up to 90 days. A copy of the airplane ticket and an official letter from an approved institution/organization verifying the reason and duration of your trip to Suriname is required in addition to the primary papers.

Special Visas

In the event of a death in the immediate family, a single entry, 2-months valid special visa permits you to visit Suriname. It also allows for a maximum stay of 90 days. You must be of Surinamese ancestry and have a copy of the death certificate as well as proof of the family relation/connection to qualify for a special visa.

Visa for transit

If you are traveling to another nation via Suriname and plan to leave within three days of your arrival, you will be issued a transit visa. A copy of your tickets and confirmation that you have been granted entrance into the next nation on your itinerary are required supporting papers.

Permission to Stay in Suriname for a Temporary Time

If you want to stay in Suriname for more than 90 days, you must apply for an Authorization for Temporary Stay, popularly known as MKV, at least three months before your arrival date. After visiting Suriname on a tourist or business visa, you will not be able to apply for an MKV. An MKV application can be sent to the Honorary Consul of Suriname in London.

To register for an MKV, you must have the following qualifications:

  • A filled-out form.
  • 2 passport-sized photos have been taken recently.
  • A copy of the passport's biodata and visa pages.
  • A certified copy of your birth certificate is required.
  • An original "good behavior" certificate.
  • Bank statements demonstrate that you have the funds to stay in Suriname.
  • A copy of an official letter from the organization/institution in Suriname, outlining your purpose of visit and period of stay, whether you are doing an internship or volunteering.
  • A copy of the labor or employment contract is required for work-related trips.
  • A bank statement indicating that you transmitted a ten-euro administrative charge or a receipt indicating that the payment was made in cash.
  • A copy of your current health insurance.

After you've submitted all of your documentation, you'll have to wait three months to see if your MKV has been accepted.

If so, you can file for a KV, often known as a short-stay visa, to enter Suriname. This visa is valid for 60 days, and the documentation requirements are the same as they are for other visa categories. When you acquire your visa, the Consulate will also send you a notice stating that you must file with the Ministry of Justice and Police in Suriname within two weeks of your arrival.

You will obtain the final stamp for an Authorization for Temporary Stay when you reach the Department for Registration of Foreigners in Paramaribo.
